第八卷　外文译述

许云樵先生在著述研究的同时，也进行了不少汉译的工作。他虽 “鼓吹研究，发表心得”，但也认为在南洋研究起步的阶段，需要适量的译介工作，尤其是南洋原始资料的传译，更是迫切需要。他在南洋研究上的 “处女作”《暹罗王郑昭传》便是一部蜚驰内外的译著。

先生在《星洲日报》任职期间，以连载方式发表了《黃金半岛题本评注》及《佛罗利氏航海记译注》两种译著，前者为 16 世纪欧人详述南洋风土的第一专书，后者为 17 世纪航海家佛罗利氏途经南洋各地的见闻写成航海记。

先生译著中最为马新学界津津乐道的，莫过于《马来纪年》的翻译。数十年来，学界引用此书时皆以的译本为主要参考。在南洋大学任职期间，先生翻译了另一本力著《安南通史》。当时中印半岛三国（缅、暹、越）的通史著述中，独缺越南（安南）没有相关译著，于是他译出以补缺憾。

除了上述史料性质的译著，许氏的译介涉及的范围也包括：历史、考古、语言、宗教民俗、橡胶研究、草药和文学。这些大量的译介文章主要是辅助其研究工作。
