On 18 May, the “TRANSFORMAT108N Ripples 2.0: Yap Hong Ngee Solo Exhibition and The 18th Our World Exhibition” opened at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM (WKSGM). The opening ceremony was officiated by Deputy Education Minister YB Wong Kah Woh.
SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai reminisced about Yap Hong Ngee’s earlier exhibitions displayed at WKSGM, which began some 20 years ago. In doing so, he expressed admiration for Mr Yap’s unwavering passion and perseverance in the realm of art.
Jane Yap, the exhibition curator and Yap Hong Ngee’s daughter, shared that the curating process posed significant challenges. However, effective teamwork among all involved parties ensured the smooth execution of the exhibition. Jane also emphasised the importance of allowing children to explore art freely and integrate it into their lives.
Yap Hong Ngee explained the profound message of the exhibition: a small pebble can stir mighty ripples in water. Inspired by the idea, he invited 108 artists of varying ages from Jane Yap Atelier to collectively create artworks centred on the theme “Stone,” which are also displayed in the exhibition alongside his artworks. The collaboration ignited the flames of creativity, propelling both the artists towards new artistic heights.
At the opening ceremony, SGM youth division members performed a song composed by Colin Qi Zhe Quan, a friend of Yap Hong Ngee, specifically for the exhibition.
As a prelude to the exhibition, an online art talk was held on 11 May, during which Mr Yap and Jane provided insights into the concepts behind the exhibits. They also expressed their hope that the artworks would create ripples in the art scene, providing inspiration for others.

On 19 May, a workshop to create rock-shaped table lamps was conducted at WKSGM, complementing the exhibition. Instructor Jane Yap guided the participants, consisting of both adults and children, to explore the fascinating connection between stones and ripple effects. Due to popular demand, a second similar workshop is scheduled for 23 June.
