From 1–2 June, 160 SGM high school division (HSD) members participated in the HSD Camp held at the SGM Culture Centre and Wisma Kebudayaan SGM (WKSGM).
On the first day, SGM future division leader Nelson Tan warmly welcomed the young phoenixes, encouraging them to expand their friendship, while SGM young men’s division leader Chang Chung Bin urged them to become the torchbearers of justice envisioned by President Ikeda.
The young phoenixes later engaged in discussions about realising their dreams and exchanged ideas on topics such as justice, courage, perseverance and mission. They also listened to the experience of an educator who pursued her dream in the field of special education.
At night, the participants gathered around a campfire, singing, dancing and showcasing their talents.
They also performed a short play about school bullying, which prompted them to reflect on the importance of justice.
The next day, they visited the Mentor and Disciple Peace Hall at WKSGM, where they immersed themselves in President Ikeda’s photographs and learnt about his contributions to world peace. They shared their determination to continue President Ikeda’s peace endeavours.
Some participants expressed that, through the camp, they overcame stage fright and learnt to socialise. They vowed to study hard, strive towards their goals, and soar into the future.
Stress Management Workshop
As part of the HSD camp, a stress management workshop was held at the SGM Culture Centre on 1 June, and was broadcast to 33 venues nationwide. A total of 601 HSD members and their parents participated. Psychologist Goh Choon Weng discussed the sources and symptoms of stress, and guided the participants through a stress test. He also shared various stress management techniques, including breathing adjustments and muscle relaxation exercises.
He emphasised that a healthy diet, adequate sleep and regular exercise are also effective ways to combat stress. He reminded participants that if they lose motivation or their daily lives are affected by overwhelming stress, they should seek professional counselling services.
