On 13 May 2023, the Value Creation Book Club Book Sharing was held at the SGM Kuala Lumpur Member Service Centre. The speakers were Chia Kok Peng, Head of the SGM Publications Department, and Chew Meng Tatt, a senior designer.
A total of 32 book lovers gathered to learn about the publishing process of Hikmah Toleransi – Falsafah Kepemurahan dan Keamanan, a dialogue between SGI President Daisaku Ikeda and the late former president of Indonesia Abdhurrahman Wahid (1940-2009).
Chia Kok Peng emphasised that the dialogue, which discusses the concepts of Islam and Buddhism, paves the way for building a peaceful and tolerant society. He further stated that the publication of this Malay edition of the dialogue will allow the Malay community to benefit from the crystallisation of the dialogue between these two wise men.
During the event, Chew Meng Tatt shared the concept behind the book cover design. He explained that the crane and the phoenix are both symbols of peace in Japan and Indonesia, the respective countries of the authors. He also spoke about the value of paper books.
Participants provided feedback, expressing their thoughts on the event. One participant said, “I have learned a lot and now understand the importance of high-quality books. It has reminded me to read more.” “The Book Club has encouraged me to challenge myself to read again. After reading, I hope to share my impressions with others.”
