On 2 July, SGM took part in an interfaith forum at UCSI University in Kuala Lumpur. The forum was part of the university’s initiative to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing an opportunity to learn about major world religions, aiming to foster a harmonious and peaceful society.
As one of the panellists, SGM education committee vice-leader Dr Wan Cheong Kin explained that the Buddhist approach to achieving good health and wellbeing, in line with SDG 3, involves cultivating spiritual and emotional strength through mindful and compassionate actions in daily life.
When discussing the global issue of food wastage, he highlighted that Buddhism advocates for moderation, aligning with SDG 12’s focus on responsible consumption and production.
UCSI students responded positively to the forum. One student mentioned that she learnt to view global issues from religious perspectives, while an international student shared that he gained a better understanding of Buddhism.
