On 26 March 2022, SGM held an online legal forum themed “Is writing a WILL just for the purpose of distributing our assets?” for some 1,000 participants. SGM Justice Group members advocates and solicitors Vivan Chua and Teo Wee Shiuan were the speakers, while advocate and solicitor Cedric Chan Yew moderated the event.
The speakers explained what are wills and probate, the benefits of having a will, probate and administration, things to take note during application and the Distribution
Act. They also answered some of the participants’ inquiries as well.
Lastly, the speakers stressed that having a will allows the deceased ones to distribute their assets as they wished and will simplify application procedures.
This forum has increased the participants’ understanding of a will.
