On 23 and 24 November 2024, SGM held its second Headquarters Leaders Conference at its culture centre, attended by over 900 leaders.
SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai said that Soka Gakkai president Minoru Harada had announced the amendment in the Soka Gakkai’s constitution, acknowledging the Soka Gakkai’s first president Tsunesaburo Makiguchi for founding the Soka Gakkai, second president Josei Toda for calling forth 750,000 Bodhisattvas of the Earth and third president Daisaku Ikeda as the mentor of worldwide kosen-rufu and the president of the SGI in perpetuity.
Mr Koh also announced the Soka Gakkai’s theme for 2025 – “Year of Soaring Higher Towards a Youthful Soka Gakkai Worldwide.” He elaborated that an indomitable spirit to rise above challenges is essential for growth and victory.
SGM youth division leader Andrew Looi, young women’s division leader Lee Kam Yit and young men’s division leader Chang Chung Bin shared SGM’s activity direction and focus for 2025. They highlighted that the focus of the year will be on shakubuku and fostering members through various activities and study sessions.
Reports on organisational and school activities for the second half of 2024 were delivered, along with announcements of new leadership appointments. There were also sharings on the SGI Autumn Training Course (held from 14–19 November 2024), shakubuku movement, fostering the future division and book promotion, among others.
Meanwhile, SGM women’s division leader May Chan highlighted President Ikeda’s heartfelt commitment to prioritising the future division upon assuming the presidency. She encouraged the attendees to pass on his vision and aspirations to members of the future and youth divisions.
Mr Koh then emphasised that the essence of shakubuku lies in awakening the mission of Bodhisattvas of the Earth within each individual. He urged everyone to share Nichiren Buddhism with the youth to expand the circle of happiness and nurture a youthful organisation.
