On 15 February, a group of Soka University of Japan (SUJ) alumni in Malaysia came together for their first-ever gathering at the SGM Culture Centre, joined by their families, bringing the total attendance to around 150.

In his address, SUJ vice board chairperson Akiya Yoshihide highlighted that the group aims to strengthen bonds among alumni, support their alma mater and promote the principles of Soka education. Encouraging members to contribute actively to society as a way of expressing gratitude, he urged them to serve as SUJ ambassadors by introducing the university to younger generations.

The ceremony also featured three alumni sharing their experiences, followed by a commemorative video celebrating SUJ’s 50th anniversary. Group representative Chang Lee Leng also expressed her determination to foster successors and achieve victories.

SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai attended the event, offering his best wishes for the flourishing growth of the group.

Founded by Daisaku Ikeda in Tokyo, Japan, SUJ has nurtured over 100,000 graduates since its establishment in 1971. Malaysia is now the sixth country to establish a group for SUJ alumni outside Japan, following North America, South Korea, Brazil, Indonesia and Thailand.
