Ikeda Peace Park stood out among 14 contestants to receive the Special Mention Award in the community and neighbourhood park category at the MyPlace Awards 2023, organised by the Malaysian Institute of Planners. The award recognises the park as a conducive public space.
The awards ceremony took place on 1 December 2023, at Le’ Meridien Hotel in Petaling Jaya, coinciding with the park’s 4th anniversary of establishment.
SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai, women’s division leader May Chan, Vice-General Director Johnny Ng, SGM Selangor representatives Steven Chee and Chia Kok Peng received the award on behalf of SGM and Klang Municipal Council (MPK).
Located opposite the SGM Selangor Culture Centre in Klang, Ikeda Peace Park was once just a simple field with some trees and bushes. The MPK and SGM worked together to turn the area into a serene park spanning 792 square metres, aiming to provide a space where people from all walks of life and races can engage in dialogue and foster friendships.
Named in honour of President Ikeda’s contributions to world peace, Ikeda Peace Park opened its doors to the public on 1 December 2019.
