On July 18, some 450 Greater Kuala Lumpur Culture Group members and representatives from four divisions gathered online to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of the group’s founding. It was founded on July 8, 1988 with establishing peace and friendship through cultural performances as its objective.
The participants first watched a video featuring their previous performances before the COVID-19 pandemic erupted. This was followed by another video featuring victory reports from culture representatives nationwide.
Four representatives, namely Lee Li Ying and Ong Yan Pooi from the Dove Dance Group, and Low Xin Yi and Lai En Lyn from the Rainbow Junior Group shared their experiences on overcoming challenges during online practices during the pandemic.
A study session was carried out by SGM young women’s division vice-secretary Sherry Koay themed “Move the Heavenly Deities through Steadfast Prayers.” She focused on this Gosho: “No matter how troubled the times may become, the Lotus Sutra and the ten demon daughters will protect all of you, praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground.” (WND-1, pg 444) She concluded that in order to make the impossible possible through prayers, one must make a firm vow, and the culture group has the mission to apply their ingenuity and spread hope to others, especially during this pandemic.
