On 15 June, in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of SGM’s establishment, SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai delivered a study lecture titled “The Significance of Buddhist Study” at the SGM Pahang Culture Centre. The lecture was broadcast to 50 venues nationwide, except Negeri Sembilan. A total number of 3,616 leaders participated.
Mr Koh shared that when the second president of the Soka Gakkai Josei Toda was released from prison, many leaders and members of Nichiren Buddhism backslid due to a lack of Buddhist study. This eventually led to the crumbling of the Soka Gakkai (then Soka Kyoiku Gakkai).

Based on guidance from President Ikeda, Mr Koh highlighted three significance of Buddhist study: (1) to deepen one’s faith, (2) to serve as a driving force for kosen-rufu, and (3) to lay the foundation for establishing a new humanism. He added that a key factor in President Ikeda’s ability to propel the Soka Gakkai as a genuine world religion was his solid foundation in Buddhist study.
Lastly, Mr Koh encouraged everyone to actively promote the profound teachings of the Gosho, spreading them throughout Malaysia and across the world.
