On 10 August, the “Faizal Sidik: 25 Years – Works from 1999 to 2024” exhibition was officially opened by renowned Malaysian film director Dr U-Wei Haji Saari. In his opening speech, Dr U-Wei praised the artist’s enduring passion for art and commended SGM’s active involvement in promoting art.
Faizal Sidik spoke about his unwavering dedication to art, recalling advice from the late artist Rahime Harun, who told him that emotional and spiritual resilience are essential qualities for becoming a true artist.
Meanwhile, SGM secretary-general Tan Leng highlighted the connection between art and life, emphasising the power of art in promoting peace.
The exhibition, held at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM from 10 August to 15 September, marked Faizal Sidik’s sixth solo showcase. Featuring 193 artworks created over 25 years, it traced the evolution of his artistic style, themes and techniques, providing a comprehensive view of his creative journey.
A highlight of the exhibition was the integration of the songket motifs in his creations, which showcases traditional culture as a central theme. He also blended elements of Western aesthetics, giving his work a unique cultural and artistic depth.
A Visit to MDPH
Before the opening ceremony, Dr U-Wei visited the Mentor and Disciple Peace Hall (MDPH) at WKSGM. He resonated with the peace philosophy of the first three presidents of the Soka Gakkai, affirming the importance of respecting the dignity of life and abolishing nuclear weapons, emphasising that these peace ideals are particularly relevant in today’s world.
