David Tay’s Photography Exhibition at SGI ACEC

Following stops in Penang, Selangor and Pahang, the final leg of the “Life’s A Stage – A Photography Exhibition by David Tay Poey Cher” was held at the SGI Asia Culture and Education Centre (SGI ACEC) in Johor Bahru from 9–16 March, drawing a total of 1,041 visitors.

The exhibition featured 26 black-and-white photographs by renowned Singaporean photographer David Tay, capturing vivid moments that reflect the richness of human life from childhood to old age.

At the opening ceremony on 9 March, SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai shared that David Tay’s photography offers viewers a chance to appreciate the many facets of life. He expressed hope that visitors would draw inspiration from the artworks.

Meanwhile, Johor Bahru Stulang Zone councillor Bong Seng Heng, attending the event on behalf of Johor exco member YB Ling Tian Soon, praised the photographer’s thoughtful reflections on life and commended SGM’s ongoing efforts to promote peace, culture and education through a humanistic lens.

Adding to the event’s atmosphere was a melodious sheng performance by guest performer Soh Swee Kiat.

Also present at the opening ceremony were SGM president Johnny Ng and Photographic Society of Johor president Tan King Huat.

Following the ceremony, David Tay delivered a talk where he shared insights into his inspirations, why he opted for black-and-white photography and the artistic philosophy that shapes his work. Using several of his works as examples, he walked the audience through his creative process and techniques. He also encouraged aspiring photographers to explore photography as a means of storytelling and personal expression.
