In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Malaysia–China diplomatic ties, SGM, the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) and the Nanyang Art Research Society jointly organised a seminar on 1 December 2024 at KLSCAH. The event honoured three renowned Nanyang-style ink painting masters – Chung Chen Sun, Yee Sze Fook and Cheah Thien Soong.
The seminar featured insights from various experts: Nanyang Art Research Society vice-president Lok How Yuan introduced the different stages of Chung Chen Sun’s artistic evolution; art critic Chai Chang Hwang examined Yee Sze Fook’s unique approach; former dean of Guangxi University College of the Arts (China) Shuai Minfeng provided an analysis of Cheah Thien Soong’s works; and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Alumni Association (Singapore) president Lim Poh Teck discussed the fusion of traditional and modern consciousness in Malaysian art.
SGM art and exhibition department head Vicky Ho concluded the seminar by highlighting the invaluable contributions of the three masters.
