Drumming is a musical rhythm that can move people’s heart, inspiring them to strengthen their determination. The SGM Young Lions Martial Arts Group (YLMA) presented a concert entitled “The Drums” at the SGM Culture Centre on June 24, 2017, attracting over 1,000 spectators.
Culture is a human endeavour that brings people closer to each other. It creates harmony among people from different cultural backgrounds. The drumming performance was rich in content, presenting five numbers in various styles. The pieces included Malaysia’s famous festive drums, China’s Jiangzhou drums and the traditional Malay kompang. The event took place on the eve of Hari Raya Aidilfitri. YLMA combined the kompang and the festive drums to perform “Muhibbah” showcasing the harmonious way of life in a multicultural society.
The YLMA is trained by noted local drum instructor, professional percussionist and founder of FrhythmS Academy Thong Yoong How, who introduced new ways of playing in the YLMA.
